Tunisian Participation at the International Maritime Organization (IMO), London

Mr. Adel Jarboui, Secretary of State to the Minister of Transport, is heading the Tunisian delegation participating in the 31st session of the Assembly of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), held in London from 25 November-4 December 2019.

During the statement he delivered at the pleanry session, Mr Jarboui emphasised Tunisia’s commitment to contribute actively towards the development of maritime navigation, by devising a strategic vision in this regard and seeking to implement the relevant IMO legislative instruments.

He also underlined that the Tunisian authorities have prepared an action plan articulated around the following components: ship safety and security, protection of the maritime environment and search and rescue at sea.

He stressed the importance for Tunisia to be more involved in opportunities of reinforcement of national capacities provided by IMO, through its integrated technical assistance programme.

The International Maritime Organization is a specialised agency of the United Nations responsible for regulating shipping. Headquartered in London, the IMO currently has 174 member states. The Assembly of IMO takes place at least every two years in regular session.
